SCGC Proposals 2009
Tue, May 26, 2009 - 12:26 PM
Below are proposals which have been submitted for the June Advisory Board Meeting......         Both Advisory Boards       Title: 2009-01 Allow SCGC member units to count one (1) non-SCGC contest towards championships qualification. Submitted By: Kim England, Hart County High School Referred To: Both Advisory Boards   Proposal: Allow SCGC member units to count one (1) non-SCGC contest towards championships qualification.  Member units can count only one non-SCGC contest whether that is a WGI event or another circuit, but not both. All WGI events will continue to count towards championships qualification. Scores from non-SCGC contests will not be used in ranking for SCGC Championships neighborhoods.   Rational: Many of our units are on the border between circuits and though we are happy to have them as members of the SCGC, the circuit should not discourage participation in local events simply because of championships qual... "WGI Championships and the Green Shirt Guy"
Tue, Apr 14, 2009 - 9:10 AM
The following was written by Devon Rose, a 2nd year member of Eklipse Winter Guard and submitted by Matt Caudill. “Championships and Green Shirt Guy” Like last year, I walked into the arena and looked into the crowd...scanning. I saw a particular man this weekend in the crowd. He was in the second row on my left. He wore a green shirt and a watch. I set my ‘ballad’ flag, then my flag feature flag, and then my brick flag. I listened for "is the guard ready?" As always my insides were in knots. I set in my pose. I remember taking a breath every time Katie did. Then, I saw that green shirt guy. I put on my face and the show started. I saw Tiffany and Sierra next to me dancing. I could feel the nerves in them. I could see the momentary burst of energy making them early and couldn't help but thinking about a year ago...when I did the same thing. I picked up my brick flag out of muscle memory and only got back into the show when I caught the opening toss. A... [read more]

Lucas England/Hart Co HS & Katy Graham/UA Alta Marea excerpt from WGI.org....."Two Hours with Mia Michaels"Apr 7, 2009 By Michael Boo It hardly seems humane to have asked hundreds of  winter guard members to consider showing up for a morning choreography session just hours after the end of the WGI World Championships World Class Finals. But for the hundreds who heeded the call Sunday morning, April 5, 2009, the sacrifice of time and sleep was repaid in huge dividends. Filling up the floor of the University of Dayton Arena, the effects of any partying that took place after the Worl... WGI defines use of "air blade"
Tue, Jan 13, 2009 - 1:57 PM
WGI defines authorized equipment as a flag, rifle or sabre to satisfy the minimum equipment time (see Page 76 in the 2009 WGI Adjudication Manual and Rulebook). There might be some confusion as defining the Air Blade as a “rifle”. While the “sickle rifle” was grandfathered into the definition of a legal rifle some years back, the Color Guard Steering Committee felt that the Air Blade did not fit the traditional definition of a rifle. Since 2009 is a rule change year, proposals to change that definition could be considered by the Advisory Board at the end of this season should one be submitted.   What does this mean to those guards using the Air Blade this season? Only that the Air Blade will be classified as a prop and not authorized legal equipment. Color guards can choose to use the Air Blade in their program as long as the minimum equipment time is fulfilled using the standard rifle, flag and/or sabre.   To avoid penalties, color guards must m... Plans are in place for SCGC to be fully digital during the 2009 season!! Proposals submitted for June meeting...
Sun, Jun 01, 2008 - 6:10 PM
Proposals – Both Advisory Boards   Title: 01-2008 Judge Travel Pay Submitted By: Kenneth Coultas (Lawrence County HS) Referred To: BOTH Advisory Boards Proposal: All judges will receive the current government mileage rate for travel (as of Jan. 1 of the calendar year) to and from all SCGC events. Rationale:  Fuel costs are rising at an alarming rate. If judges are expected to be professionals and act professionally, they should be remunerated as such.  WGI does it. Financial Impact: This could be handled in one of the following ways:  Show sponsors are responsible for the cost. The travel fee that show sponsors currently pay could be abolished and the mileage fee could be added to each judge’s check. A roster of judge’s addresses could be maintained by the SCGC contest director. Mileage to and from the event could be calculated before-hand and the charges given to the contest host in time to include it on the salary check. Show hosts would have to budget... [read more]
