SCGC Percussion Announcement!!
Due to circumstances beyond our control the location of SCGC Percussion Championships for this year has been changed. After exhausting efforts to secure a location suited to the needs of our membership, the Board of Directors selected Lincoln County High School in Fayetteville, Tennessee to host the 2014 event. The date remains as originally scheduled on Saturday, March 29th.
In early June the Board & Staff realized there would be date conflicts with a WGI Percussion Regional on March 22nd and with Belmont when March 29th was not an open date option. Percussion Directors polled at the time indicated they would not skip the WGI Regional to attend SCGC Championships nor were they interested in participating in the two events being held on the same day. The search for a new site appeared to be the only option and thusly March 29th was announced as part of our 2014 SCGC schedule. In recent weeks when a Sunday date opened as a Belmont possibility a sampling of Percussion Directors found that most all scholastic units would have insurmountable difficulties with a date change and/or their student participation on Sunday.
SCGC Board Members bear the responsibility of making choices best for the membership as a whole, and their subsequent vote (11-2) resulted in the selection of the Lincoln County HS site for this year. Yes, the difference in financial commitments required to run the event at Lincoln County are beneficial to the circuit, but the financial impact (as has been rumored of late) was not the genesis of this issue. SCGC will continue to offer the same excellent quality experience
for percussion units at the new event site. Lincoln County HS for example offers ample outside space for percussion units to play, gym seating for 3500 (1750 per side) with 25 rows of bleachers, and of course provides easy in/out access to the performance space. Site info, photos, and ticket pricing details will be posted/emailed by week's end.
We thank you all in advance for your cooperation and understanding!!
All the best...Donna McKinney, President
Gilles Ouellette, Championship Coordinator
Benja Russell, Percussion Coordinator
