CHAMPIONSHIP schedule... Tue, Feb 07, 2012 - 1:45 PM A draft schedule for CHAMPIONSHIP is available The official schedule with unit names will be posted on 3/25.In order to accomodate all 124 units signed up, we had to make a few changes to the format we've used in past years.These include;- A start time of 4pm on Friday with an award ceremony scheduled for 9:30pm- 1 retreat on Saturday for all units competing that day  (with 83 units,  we are working on a format to cut down on the time of the award ceremony)- A different set up in terms of drums and guard performing times. Make sure to check all of this as you start planning your weekend.It will affect how you've done it in the past.... The clinic will start 30 minutes after the Percussion awards ceremony. It will be held at the performing arts center at Prattville High School and will last approximately one hour. Also, One Lucky Student will be given a Free Private Lesson with Scott following the Clinic. We will draw names from the attendees of the clinic to determine the winner. [read more] Congratulations WGI St. Louis, Atlanta, & Pensacola WG Finalists Tue, Mar 08, 2011 - 11:54 AM Congrats to SCGC members Elysian, Vivace, Fultondale HS, Oak Grove HS, Amor, and Cosmopolitan Winter Guards for making finals at the  following WGI Regionals.   Elysian placed 2nd at the St. Louis WGI Regional in Independent Open.   At the Atlanta Regional in the Independent A Class Amor placed 1st and Vivace placed 3rd.   At the Pensacola Regional Fultondale placed 4th in the Scholastic Regional A Class, Oak Grove finished 6th in Scholastic A.  Amor took home 1st place in the Independent A Class, while Cosmopolitan was 3rd.   We are very proud of our SCGC members they represented the SCGC very well! ... Tue, Feb 22, 2011 - 1:30 PM This past weekend 3 of our SCGC units competed at Indianapolis, Indiana in 2011 WGI Regionals.  The SCGC was well represented with the following placements:   Percussion Independent World From WGI website: “In one of the divisions where the prelim placements held, Music City Mystique (TN) (1st- 87.55) earned a commanding Regional victory with “Mantra”.  The 2011 edition has a similar presence to the 2004 “Se7en” and 2006 “MCM Traveling Sideshow” productions, both of which were World Champion shows. [read more] WGI defines use of "air blade" Tue, Jan 13, 2009 - 1:57 PM WGI defines authorized equipment as a flag, rifle or sabre to satisfy the minimum equipment time (see Page 76 in the 2009 WGI Adjudication Manual and Rulebook). There might be some confusion as defining the Air Blade as a “rifle”. While the “sickle rifle” was grandfathered into the definition of a legal rifle some years back, the Color Guard Steering Committee felt that the Air Blade did not fit the traditional definition of a rifle. Since 2009 is a rule change year, proposals to change that definition could be considered by the Advisory Board at the end of this season should one be submitted.   What does this mean to those guards using the Air Blade this season? Only that the Air Blade will be classified as a prop and not authorized legal equipment. Color guards can choose to use the Air Blade in their program as long as the minimum equipment time is fulfilled using the standard rifle, flag and/or sabre.   To avoid penalties, color guards must m... [read more] Percussion Warm-up at Championships Wed, Apr 02, 2008 - 11:24 AM Due to issues at the WGI Percussion Regional last weekend, Vanderbilt University has issued the following requirement for all Percussion units for SCGC Championships. It is crucial that all Percussion Units follow this policy: As the Unit Packet details, ALL Percussion Warm-Up MUST take place along the Concourse between the baseball and football stadiums. There is to be NO Percussion Warm-Up in the auxiliary parking areas or areas outside of the Memorial Gymnasium complex. Vanderbilt University is a new venue for SCGC Championships. The staff of Vanderbilt Athletics and the SCGC are committed to working together to ensure a successful event. Among those groups were Independence and Centennial High Schools (PSA), Mt. Juliet High School (PSO), Fred J. Page High School (PSW) and Legend Independent (PIW). The circuit produced 4 finalist including second place finishes by Mt. Juliet and Legend Independent and a fourth place finish by Fred J. Page. Non-member unit Houston High School also attended and made finals.  And down south, Brookwood Percussion participated in the WGI Pensacola Regional and is now under review for promotion to the Open Class. Fri, Dec 07, 2007 - 9:54 AM Competitive teams from The University of Alabama are typically associated with the accomplishments of the Crimson Tide on the football field.  In 2006, The University of Alabama began fielding another team: the Alta Marea Winter Guard.  In its first year of competition, Alta Marea which translated from Italian means, “high tide,” was an Independent A class finalist at the 2006 WGI World Championships.  Its show was titled Once in a Lifetime, a unique rendition of the Talking Heads song of the same name sung over the jazz standard Birdland by Jacqui Naylor.
